Based upon a true story about a dedicated care facility volunteer who reaches out to Jonathan, a Down Syndrome child whose potential far exceeds the opportunities he has been allowed by his parents.

When they deny him the surgery to correct a life-threatening heart defect and attempt to sever his emotional ties to the volunteer and her family, this very special woman petitions the court for adoption, resulting in a landmark judicial decision.

JoBeth Williams plays Ginny Moore, the woman who discovers Jonathan's capabilities and literally fights for his right to survive. Chris Burke plays Jonathan when he reaches his teenage years. Born with Down Syndrome himself, Chris brings reality and intelligence to the part of a young man who was finally allowed to reach out and grow to his own full potential.
