Mario Van Peebles plays Sonny Spoon who is a smooth operator putting his talents to work as a private eye. His office is a phone booth, his friends and information sources are mostly street people and his approach to crime solving is unorthodox at best.

Sonny is particularly good at disguises and in the course of an episode might turn up as anything from a bewildered Arab tourist, to a clergyman, to an old, fat woman.
