Baby Annie is HIV positive and has been left in the clinic by her drug addicted mother (Mary-Louise Parker). A compassionate nurse (Sissy Spacek) takes care of Baby Annie at her home. Two years later she plans to adopt, but suddenly the baby's birth mother reappears and demands custody.
